Yes, indeed! I have his visage engraved into my Centennial US Forest Service Commemorative Model 1886 Browning lever action rifle in .45-70 caliber, along with that of Gifford Pinchot, the father of the Forest Service.

MSU powwow set for weekend

BOZEMAN -- The 31st annual Montana State University American Indian Council Pow Wow will be Friday and Saturday in MSU's Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.

The powwow is one of the largest in Montana and offers free admission to all. Activities start at 6 p.m. Friday with the grand entry. Grand entries also are set for noon and 6 p.m. Saturday. A free buffalo chili dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Young Grey Horse of the Blackfeet Nation is host drummer. Lloyd Top Sky of the Chippewa Cree Tribe is master of ceremonies. Victor Singer of the Crow Tribe is co-master of ceremonies. Jonathan Windy Boy of the Chippewa Cree Tribe is arena director. Head female dancer is Lisa Sun Rhodes, an MSU student from Fort Peck and a member of the Northern Arapaho Tribe. Head male dancer is Ronald Lodgepole, an MSU student from Rocky Boy and a member of the Chippewa Cree Tribe.

Throughout all sessions, booths offering the crafts of traditional artists and artisans will be open around the edge of the dance arena.

MSU's third annual Native Nexus, focusing on "Education for Leadership," will be at 9 a.m. Friday in the Strand Union Ballrooms. Elders and education leaders from Montana's tribal communities will share goals. Teachers and administrators will talk about the Indian Education for All Act and students' pursuing degrees. Native Nexus is free and open to the public. For information or to register, call Abaetern Academy at 920-1778.
