Ted, Your reaction is a bit surprising.

I'm just looking at the big picture. There are many, many sides to illegal immigration. I'll just address one point in this post, since it's time I explained this part:

Union protectionism? How can that possibly factor into this issue? Most jobs illegals do are non union.

Would you agree that illegal immigrants put a downward pressure on wages? That affects all blue-collar workers, especially those belonging to unions. Why hired unionized construction workers, for instance, when you can just hire illegal immigrants?

On that note, it's kind of inaccurate to say that illegal immigrants (or guest workers for that matter) will take jobs no Americans want. The truth is that Americans want those jobs, just not at the relatively low wages offered.

That's why I mentioned "union protectionism," because the effect on wages is significant. And the effect is across the entire spectrum of blue-collar jobs.
