I'm home to three kinds of wild cats (actually, two - two tortoise shells and a generic low country cat), right here in South Carolina, and the natives speak a form of English.

I may just retire to Belize someday.

Yikes. May I suggest you spend 3 months there first. The Belize zoo and Amberguis Cay are quaint but the rest is pretty rough and tough in every sense of the words. Mind you, if you really like that country from prolonged experience, you would find Chad exquisite. <g>

LC,
well usually I'm not very environmentally concerned, actually I'm not enamoured by anti-globalization or "tree hugging" movements. But I always fancied cats - also big and wild cats, I think they are near perfect creatures for what they're meant to do.. and giving them back some of their former habitat is something I certainly support - oftentimes one could employ clever strategies to ease this process ..

for example in Austria we have something called "lynx insurance" - whenever a farmer can prove that one of his sheep or cows fell prey to a lynx, they are compensated for the loss. This eases their pain and makes them advocates of the wild cats instead of enemies..

Belize must sound really nice, I think there are some rare creatures to be found there like the "fish cat" or the ocelot.

all the best
