He could, but I think in this specific case I would agree.

Thank you!! That wasn't so hard, was it??

I had to click back to the article to make sure I didn't miss something. ... there's no implication in that article that the White House or Clarke didn't know about what Newt was doing or that they didn't work with Newt, the CIA and the DOD to do something.

Yes there is... He stated that Gingrich and the CIA orchestrated the plan to overthrow the Iranian regime.

However, neither he, nor Mr. Simon, admitted that the White House had any role in the plan..

All I'm saying is that Clarke could have just had the decency (and retained his credibility) by absorbing his share of the responsibility rather than acting like it was some kind of "rogue operation" that the White House didn't have a role in.

Btw, here's some trivia for you... Do you know who was, according to the 9/11 report, gave the final nod to permit the Bin Laden family to leave the US on 9/11??

I wonder what Mr. Clarke has to say about that?

Second, we found no evidence of political intervention. We found no evidence that anyone at the White House above the level of Richard Clarke participated in a decision on the departure of Saudi nationals. The issue came up in one of the many video teleconferences of the interagency group Clarke chaired, and Clarke said he approved of how the FBI was dealing with the matter when it came up for interagency discussion at his level. Clarke told us, "I asked the FBI, Dale Watson . . . to handle that, to check to see if that was all right with them, to see if they wanted access to any of these people, and to get back to me. And if they had no objections, it would be fine with me." Clarke added, "I have no recollection of clearing it with anybody at the White House."26

Want to tell me now that Clarke wasn't "wired in" with considerable power??

He issued this order with no apparent signature authority from the President or other leadership.

No wonder he was "eased out"..
