You haven't heard about most of the pioneers. Even if you saw Pirates in the Valley . While it took great liberties, it did capture those days. Almost all of them wound up failing at one point or another. But all shaped the industry as we know it. Adam not only realized that transportability was important, also pioneered bundling important software packages with the machine. So when you bought an Osbourne, you got more than BASIC and/or the OS(if you got even that) you got enough software to make the machine useful. I am sure that Adam died feeling fulfilled. He didn't get rich, none of us in those days, except possibly Gates or Jobs, ever expected that, but he shaped the future. Which is what any of us ever aspired to. Different time, different place. It was the last bastion of idealism and doing things because it would make a better future for us all. We lost out to the rush to wealth. It was inevitable, but it still hurts. Osbourne had some ads that featured several people in business dress standing around at a bus stop or walking on the sidewalk or something similar. Most were carrying a briefcase, one was carrying an Osbourne. The ad invited you to pick the winner. And then explained why the one carrying the Osbourne was the real winner, listing all the specs and software included. Not bad as far as ads go. Well, Uzi decided to spoof the ads. Same sort of setup, but they pointed out the guy with the Uzi in his briefcase would be the real winner, dutifully listing rate of fire and the other specs.
