Sony Cuts Price Of PlayStation 2

In anticipation of the fall release of its next-gen PS3 gaming console, Sony knocked $20 off the price of PlayStation 2.

Sony has announced a drop in the price of its PlayStation 2 gaming system Wednesday. The suggested retail price is now $129.99, a reduction of $20.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 Platinum System retails for $399.99.

Market research group NPD reports that Sony's PS2 leads console unit market share with 55.6 percent of the U.S. market.

In November, Sony is expected to launch its next-generation gaming console, PlayStation 3. Pre-release versions of the PS3 were offered online at auction site UniqueAuction in March.
