Saddam was a secular leader who feared Islamic extremists like Al Qaida more thanhe feared the USA. Saddam regularly supressed them, killing thousands of them over the years.

Those "mass graves" Sean Hannity likes harping about are likely filled with Islamic extremists who defied Saddam's non-Muslim rule. There is no evidence Saddam ever did jack with Al Qaida. In fact, just the opposite is more likely. Saddam would probably have supressed Al Qaida and/or avoided them like the plague.
