Not rocket science right, but still not that easy either as L2's for K8 were originally designed for 1MB max. Enlarging them would be outside the original scope.

Adding L3 isn't a question of a nanosecond either as it is entirely new to the K8 architecture. The xbar will need another port for it, and some other components that are involved in data traffic to and from the L3 will probably need to be altered as well.

Keep in mind that the above comes from someone whose brain isn't really trained to comprehend that kind of stuff (just my 2c).
