Ah but who attends this convention? I'd follow Buckley's plan of picking people at random from the phone book. If an academic, politician, or opinion writer gets picked, try again.

A constitutional convention would be a good starting place.

I don't offer any forced choices, just common sense based on honest reality. I don't know it all but I have a pretty good grasp on how and why the country is going in the wrong track, and what it will take to fix it.

Of course there will always be disagreements which is why Jefferson stressed that the truth rules, and that compromise is necessary, always based on what the people want because they are the boss.

If you applied these Jeffersonian ideals now, Bush-Cheney should have been impeached a year ago and a new honest reform government would have taken its place. Because the people wanted it. The people now have as favorable a view as OJ Simpson as they do for Cheney and the GOP congress, and Bush isn't much more popular. So the main problem now is that the GOP leaders are not serving the people, only themselves and their corporate lobbyist pals.
