Democrats better come up with some real solutions to the energy crisis, or the public won't buy into their message. I've spoken to people who say the Democrats have had their chance to solve the energy problem and have failed as well. Although it is fair to say the Democratic Congresses of the 1970s and 1980s are the ones who doubled average gas mileage via the CAFE standards (something that is helping us a lot right now, gas would be north of $5.00/gallon if they had not forced the mileage higher a generation ago) and pursued renewable energy under Carter, so we can look up the Democrats as moving us in the right direction on energy in the past. Hopefully, they will build on this legacy.

I know one thing, if peak oil is near, and gasoline is going to spiral higher to like $10.00/gallon (which it will once the peak hits), I would much rather have the Democrats in control of Congress passing painful but necessary measures as well as progressive energy legislation promoting renewables and efficiency, than a do-nothing Republican Congress looking out for big oil that has in many ways led us into this crisis.
