Precisely. We'll all end up paying more, and the oil companies will still make their huge "windfall profits."

The only difference is that the "tax-n-spend" politicians will share in the wealth. Use the money for alternative energy research? If only we could trust our politicians to do just that. Here in California, the state gas tax should go towards roads and maintenance, but because of the continual bugdet crunches, the gas tax has been usurped by the socialists in Sacramento.
