Hello Pezz, Today's Report:

My broadband at home was down for almost all of yesterday, and for all I know is still down today. I was paralyzed, but not blind, as my CNBC was still operational ... I find the ticker parade soothing, but only if I mute the silly chatter.

I worked from home yesterday, because Monday was a public holiday (Communist May Day) and tomorrow (Friday) is another public holiday (Buddha's birthday), and so I figure best to stay home on Wednesday as well, to mark the mid-point.

Anyhow, I bought more of that secret Aussie hotsie totsie mentioned here Message 22408626 and am not done yet, so must wait to disclose more.

In the meantime, I anguished over whether to take profit on the paper gold trade put on here Message 22331264 and there Message 22294090 . The price of paper gold tael is now at HKD 6318/tael. I so want to pull the trigger to claim my loot. Should I or shouldn't I?

This is precisely why I must have physical gold, to weigh me down, for the long run.

Agonize. Anguish.

I ask myself, how close are we to doomsville?

I ask myself again, what will I sell gold in exchange for?

We are supposed to let the winners run, even if the winner is a mindless lump of metal with no particular utility and has no Board of Directors.

Neah, forget it, I will not pull the trigger, at least not this very morning.

In your spirit of doubling up on a position, I looked into the soul of my portfolio for a similar opportunity, found one candidate, but alas, the position went up a lot without me buying more ;0/

See, here I bought (Note to Taikun David, thank you) two tranches of Aflease investing.reuters.co.uk at ZAR 3.83, the gold + uranium double play Message 21052469 (Feb 16, 2005) and there Message 21160564 (Mar 23rd, 2005) I refused to sell same, It is now at ZAR 5.95. Ok, OK, so it is not a double, but only a 50%-ter, and so we wait a while longer.

Note to Maurice: don't you just adore quarry work ;0)

Chugs, J

Hello Pezz, Afternoon Report:

Forget all the whistling in the dark Message 22415540 , for I could not control myself, as if vortex-ed across the event horizon, and ... yes ... I did it, meaning I sold 5/6th of my paper gold by exercising a few key strokes, thus turning paper gold into just paper, and recognized a 13+% gain for doing not very much.

The gain will go towards paying for the Coconut's membership debenture at the fancy club, so that when her spoiled bratty little playmates yelp, "ooh, let's go to the club for a swim and BBQ buffet", she can as well, if she chooses that avenue to life.

We will encourage her to simply use the neighborhood beach for play, and its BBQ pits for cookout.

The gain may also go towards paying for a 'safety' school debenture, as a safety measure, in case everybody else's kids are more brilliant than our Coconut at exam machination. This is so the Coconut can goof-off, play, for a few more years and not have to be fitted for eyeglasses caused by having to study between the ages of 30 months and 5 years.

We will encourage her to learn at her own pace, per her preference, and see what nature intended.

Chugs, J, who has been scared straight by the Mrs ;0/

P.s. thank goodness for gold and Internet

Hello Pezz, Followup Report:
Agonized over the anguished move Message 22415700 , and exchanged the HKD proceeds, less the expected club/school debenture costs, for a mix of AUD and Yen.

I like AUD because it fell more than the CAD last year, and rose less against the USD this year, so far.

I fear the Yen, but then it may go to 85 on a carry-trade punishing rampage.

I think the name of the game going forward is to make absolute capital/dividend gains in the strongest of currencies, and/or make absolute gains vis a vis gold/silver.

Making gains in mickey mouse currencies such as the Zimbabwe Dollar and the USD does not count for much now, and will count less going forward.

Hello Pezz, Today’s Report:

As you know, I had earlier . . .

(a) Bought Japanese Yen here Message 22215365 (Mar 1st, 2006) at 116 to the USD

(b) Bought Japanese Yen and Swiss CHF here Message 22219846 (March 2nd, 2006) at 116 and 131 respectively to the USD

(c) Bought Thai BHT here Message 22308051 (March 29th, 2006) at 38.69 to the USD

. . . and today, I harvested the Swiss CHF and Thai Baht and placed them in Yen, at 111, give or take, and deleveraged.

I guess-timate the trades have so far yielded around gross 5% gain (10% net gain due to leverage Message 22219846 “… borrowed …” ) to the USD/HKD. Not too bad for a leveraged trade over such a short period of time.

I still got Swiss CHF and Thai BHT elsewhere, waiting for orders to de-camp.

I refrained from moving back to USD/HKD space because it is an arena likely to blow up. I do not care for the Japanese Yen territory, but, in the financial death match rally, the Yen may well have the ooommmph to pull ahead of the USD, relative to the Thai BHT and Swiss CHF. We just have to wait and see, and pray plenty.

I am hoping for the unexpected, a repeat of the blitzkrieg that saw the Japanese Yen at 85 to the US Buck at one frightening moment, doing the nasty to the carry crowd.

Of course, the Yen may do a nasty on me and tank back down to 115 instead; ouch.

Chugs, J

P.S. You are correct if you guessed that I do not understand what is going on with the math either, how I can remain standing still, earn no interim interest, pay a small interest
charge while waiting about 60 days, and wind up 'winning'.

It is all very mysterious.

Hello Pezz, Last Night's Report:

Exchanged cash, per Warren Buffett's imperative, in exchange for:

(a) top-up (doubled) of Paramount Resources finance.yahoo.com position at CAD 40.75, reinforcing this earlier (wallop) trade Message 22311756 , committing the sins of averaging down and concentration, now waiting for market recognition;

(b) top-up Connacher finance.yahoo.com position at CAD 4.58, reinforcing earlier trades Message 22337695 (CAD 4.85) and Message 22311756 (CAD 5) and Message 21583118 (CAD 2.42); yeah, it is now a big mind-bending wallop position;

(c) top-up of Petrobank finance.yahoo.com position at CAD 17.09, wallop-izing it, reinforcing earlier trade Message 21583359 (CAD 7.70, no, not a typo), because my hoped for Magic Day is fast approaching;

(d) a new starter position in Metalline Mining finance.yahoo.com at USD 3.69, for a punt or LTBH, depending on how events unfold greattrades.blogspot.com .

Oops, and yes, almost forgot,

Lock on target, Message 21100730 (buy CAD 11.20)

Track, Message 21107248 (buy CAD 12.19)

Hesitated, Message 21163252 (sold all at CAD 11.00)

Reacquired, Message 21568467 (buy CAD 10.85)

Panicked, Message 21611132 (sell 50% CAD 10.3x)

Got the heebie-jeebies, Message 21813680 (sold all at breakeven)

Steeled, Message 22311756 (buy tranche at CAD 15)

… and last night, my Blackrock got taken out and sent to the wedding chapel Message 22427718 at CAD 24, apparently by Shell Canada. Mission accomplished, as long as a higher bid does not materialize.

And so I counted the eggs before counting the chickens, redeployed to above items, as well as allocated new capital to a winning trend, in line with the Force.
