I wrote the following earlier re todays increase in oil and gasoline inventories in the US.

$3 plus begins to yield voluntary conservation. People are thinking of ways to cut consumption and probably in ways that wont negatively affect the rest of the economy. My son in law is alternating days with a fellow worker in a carpool. My mother in law is taking public transport available to her whenever she can. This story is being repeated nationwide.

add on. Sure decreased driving might have some impact as in helping walmart because they sell everything while hurting some out of the way specialty stores but for the most part, americans can figure out how to reduce consumption without negatively impacting the economy. Is this an argument for keep the price at the pump at these prices even as the price of oil and gas falls by adding a flexible tax that kicks when whosale and then retail price of gas falls?? What do you think?
