Bush won't go to war unless he's at the 50 percent mark in the polls. If you recall in the run-up to the War on Iraq, the Oofity-Goofity Administration went to great lengths to manufacture news--terror alerts, duct tape alerts, capturing or killing the same guy two or three times, etc.--which kept his support at or above the 50 percent mark.

It really is extraordinary to look back on SI's DON'T START THE WAR thread and read all of the scares which came up, and how some of the boneheads blindly supported everything the GOPwinger administration dished up.

"On the other hand, if Bush said we could lower the price of gas by a quarter if we invaded Iran the public just might buy it. We know that ~30% of the public would."

Forget THAT bud! Iran provides about 5% of the world's strained supply. Not to mention that Iran may attempt to retailiate by attacking other nearby oil producer's ports or facilities. If we invade Iran, look for oil to go north of $200/bbl.

Sane people KNOW this, and will say so on TV - but maybe they won't be asked on Fox News..
