Rumsfeld was heckled today while giving a speech in Atlanta. One protester had him stuttering when he asked Rumsfeld why he lied about "Weapons of Mass Destruction".Rumsfeld said that he was not in the business of intelligence and tried to put the blame on Powell.

Fun stuff...

It's interesting that the "good news" is always just ahead of us. We just have to wait it out. Ever since 2003, it seems that carrot is just in front of us, but it stays out there...out of reach.
How long can people get away with repeating this tired line?

what would be perfect would be if the president said "we've turned the corner on gas prices."
then everybody would get it.

Do you think he should give that speech on aircraft carrier?

with a big sign behind him saying..."Peak Oil Has Been Defeated: Mission Accomplished"...the speech being given after he's docked with the aircraft carrier in a tugboat pushing an oil derrick with him dressed in oilrigger gear.
Yeah. Perfect.

I can see it now. The latest reality-based TV show.
"Survivor: Washington, D.C." with your host, Tony Snow.

OK...given the current Congress, where we lost 4 or so seats in each house by following the leader of our party; the press as it was in Jan '05; a pres coming into office with 48% approval; O'Reilly, Limbaugh,Scarborgh, all Faux (all beginning Nov 3 with "This guy lost by 3.5 mil votes, and only won by cheating in Ohio"); the scene in Iraq more or less as it is, cuz until a month or so ago, when 51% of us finally turned, all he had was a better way to win; ( and the RW would never let him think of pulling out); gas at maybe $2.75, how popular would he be?
The only thing he would have done (been able to do) better is Katrina, and he could have done it 1000% better and been torn down by the media.
He couldn't muster votes to change taxes back, he couldn't muster votes to increase minimum wage, he wouldn't be able to muster votes to increase mileage standards, blah, blah.
We'd feel better, the country would feel worse., and it would be another 20 years B4 we would have another shot. Come back when you have somebody with coattails and an ability to lead. Maybe then we can do it.

I think you miss the point that Ratty was making.

A Kerry win with no ability to get anything done through a hostile GOP congress would have dragged the Dems down even more than now (if that can be imagined).

As such he would have been a Lame-duck President from day One.

Namaste!
