Re: To you, multi culturalism is the Flemish and the Walloons. Multiculturalism to us means many different nations leaving under the same roof.......what you all are attempting to do with the EU we have been doing for hundreds of years.

Not quite. What you Americans erroneously call "multiculturalism" is actually "multiracialism", that is, the policy that aims at uniting many different "races" and ethnic minorities under the same monocultural roof. The US challenge is to assimilate and dissolve its varied racial constituencies in its dominant monoculture. The objective of US policymakers is that, after one, or maximum two, generations, immigrants, whether their (grand)parents came from Latin America, China, Iran, or Italy, speak English fluently, belong to a Christian sect/cult, throw BBQ parties with their neighbors, enrol with the NRA, abide by the two-party electoral circus, and get their kick out of NBA and NFL games. If all immigrants would fulfil all of the above there would be no immigration controversy in the US....

Contrariwise, Europe is attempting to build a post- or meta-cultural framework that tops and somehow overrules the diverse cultures of her constituent countries... Europe's multicultural endgame is not to have all Europeans fluent in English, Christian, and hooked on soccer.
