RE:"Grills on the doors and windows though."

Outside grilling is very tasty. <G>

Seriously, bars on windows are the culture of a lot of Latin countries. Unlike the USA the culture is that you protect yourself. They don't rely on the Police. Therefore the bars on the windows. Miami is loaded with them.

What's happening in South Central? People are living, working, trying to get by, doing good things, bad things, same as anywhere else. I've only been there once and was surprised to find it felt very safe, no signs of danger or trouble whatsoever, plus a lot of people caring about their community. Grills on the doors and windows though. I did notice that. Why do you ask?

South Central ten years ago was predominately Black. Now its predominately Latino. In city after city, American born blacks are being pushed out by Latinos who are often illegal because they are willing to live 10-15 to a house which means a lot more rent for the landlord.

In so many ways that are not visible, the illegal population hurts this countryand its citizens. If you are going to take a position, know the facts.
