EROEI is the amount of energy you get out of a substance compared to the amount of energy you put in to obtain it.
H has an EROEI of 0.5:1.

That means you get a half a unit of energy out of it, for every unit of energy you put in to produce it. Input energy to crack the water, or whatever.

So, if you build an electrical generator powered by anything from solar to oil to nuke, and use that energy to power a hydrogen plant, you will get only half the energy out (in the form of H) that you started with.

I figured I would go with 2 power plants, so that the ratio would be 1:2. Beats thinking about a half a hydrogen plant.
