they would have chased away satan worshippers too...that is a "religion". Cults are (or were) not tolerated very well.

Oral, Your point brings a question that I have had for decades. If Joseph Smith had those golden plates, and wrote the book of Mormon from what was etched on them, where did they go after that? Did he pawn them for money? Did he destroy them? Was he stupid enough to lose plates of pure gold? It all sounds like a sham to me.
