That condition is maintained only when the government is more powerful than those corporations or individuals.

It's not just any old government that will protect you instead of enslave you. That's why elections are important! The ultimate check is in the hands of the voters.

If the U.S. has any real problem it is that all voters are not equal. The wealthy corporations and individuals can influence the election much more than the normal people. If you have distorted elections you will have at best, a distorted government.
