re: I don't see the part where you explain why Arabs would hate America for reasons other than Israel. They DO have us because of Israel... as well as other meddling in the Middle East. So what? They've got oil, we need oil, it makes our economy run. Big risk. Israel is a very strong strategic partner, right next door.

America is geographically about as far from Arabia as you can get on the planet, you realize. Why would your average Arab sit around hating America if our main bone of contention in the region of the past 60 years were not a bone of contention? For the same reason they dislike the Brits and to a lesser extent the French and the Italians. Israel is part of it but there is a much bigger picture than Israel......it has to do with the Suez Canal, oil, Saudi Arabia as mecca, colonialism, Saddam Hussein, etc. Since WW II, the US has played an active role in ME affairs frequently to the disadvantage of the Muslims. Prior to WW II, it was mostly the Brits and the French. So what is more correct to say is that there is a general dislike of Westerners...........that's why the Shiites cheered when a British helicopter was brought down in Basra last week. However, these days American bear the brunt of that hate. And Israel is only part of the reason........the US has done way too many stupid things in the ME.
