I say it's because we want strong strategic allies in the Middle East, because if the world oil supply broke really bad we would be thrown into a deep depression. Our economy in ruin. And having a nuke power in our debt in the region is a very big stick.

You're nuts. The US alliance with Israel begins at the country's formation 60 years ago.

1- Why did the US support the foundation of Israel in 1948 when ME oil was not such a factor?

2- If we want a strategic ally in the ME to guarantee oil supplies, why did we choose the country that has no oil?

Let's agree to disagree

Lets agree that you're wrong. The US alliance with Israel lowers the US's ability to get ME oil by alienating all the countries in that region that have oil - what the hell is "strategic" about that?

Our so called "alliance" with Saudi Arabia is purely strategic. We can't stand them and their culture of religious oppression and discrimination, but maintain a so called alliance and partnership because it is in out strategic interest.

If the US government chose to support Israel for the past 60 years primarily as a tool to get better access to Saudi oil, then somebody had better be impeached! That's plain dumb.

Do you think the US supports Taiwan to get better access to mainland Chinese labor? Do you think the US supported West Germany during the Cold War to get better access to Soviet oil? Did the US support anti-Castro rebels in the early 1960's to get better access to Cuban cigars? Your whole premise is nuts!
