Ah, the old "democracy only survives until the point that the population realizes it can vote themselves bread and circuses" argument. Even with your vision of limited government this can happen. Ask anyone who has dealt with a homeowners association.

So I don't think you want to go down this road.

Homeowners associations are a good example of no checks and balances. So too many become bullies. Because your only option is usually to go to court, but they have the resources of the whole association and you just have yourself...

Actually that is in effect what they are doing. They demand the same services but elect people who lower taxes and put the deficit cost on future generations.
