Excellent post!!!

It could be argued from an historical standpoint that we have been too liberal and coddled those detained in this war(especially, the ones in Gitmo). They were not taken out and shot like we did commonly in post war Germany, nor were they subjected to death marches like our troops in both theaters of WWII.

I am more offended by constant attacks on my computer by endless data miners and hackers, by my personal info being collected and sold, and various other invasions of my privacy.

Exactly, perfectly stated...

GZ

Good points. However, I take exception to the term "your side". I know you might find this hard to believe, but if Newt Gingrich were running for President today he would have my vote. He's a thoughtful, intelligent conservative who focuses on solving problems - not creating them.

With respect to warrantless wiretaps, you are obviously aware that the if time were of the essence, the administration had the option of doing a wiretap then getting the warrant, but chose to ignore the law. Warrantless wiretaps are a tripwire for our freedom, and Bush is not the first president to say "trust me" while claiming "national security". Who can forget FBI Director Hoover entertaining various presidents with the content of illegal wiretaps?

The prisons? Had Bush simply declared from the start that those picked up in Afghanistan and elsewhere were "prisoners of war", the war on terror, he could keep them until the Taliban and other terror groups are defeated - however long it takes. Instead, he created that nutty "enemy combatent" theory which has caused America to lose so much credibility in the world. If a dictator decides a person is threat and sends him off to a labor camp, that's bad. But Bush in essence claims the same right. It's a very fine line and there's no reason for Bush to be walking so close to it.

And the number of "signing memorandums" Bush has attached to bills he signed makes it clear that he thinks the law is what he says it is, congress be damned. Those "signing memorandums" a power grab if there ever was one - and we as a nation should be fearful when any single man demands complete power. I am shocked that conservatives would allow this.

A also want to make it clear the distinction beween the current furor over the NSA collecting phone records and the illegal wiretaps.

I don't care about the phone record collections. The goverment delivers my mail. So long as they don't open it I don't care. It's the same with phone records, as long as they don't listen in without a warrant, it's not a big deal.

"this administration is no worse than any other"

This administration is the worst in my lifetime. Many historians believe it's one of the worst in American history. Some believe it's THE worst.

You voted for Bush, didn't you? Twice?
