"Apparently 45nm is looking particularly good for Intel:" Processes always look good at this stage of the game. The devil is getting it into production with acceptable yields and bin splits. Given all the various factors that now affect those two, rushing a process to manufacturing is a huge gamble.

re: There are some other 45nm breakthroughs, and I am not using that word in lightly, in the yield area that will get sucked into 65nm. Expect improvements on this process over time, and then a huge leap at 45. If Intel has indeed furthered low-k for 45nm then it will virtually garantee a break through in reduced leakage. Yields however are a completely different matter. If this will play out (very low leakage at 45nm, at least somewhat low yields) then that would be as I've been expecting for a while now already.
