The person who made that statement was not for a "strong, smart, efficient military".

What we don't want is to exploit and abuse our military by letting some stupid, arrogant, inexperienced and corrupt commander in chief send troops into costly quagmires against enemies we don't even understand, and for goals which are either unrealistic or that the troops don't understand

Wow, I can't let that pass. Start with Kennedy (and then Johnson) getting us into Vietnam, and let's not discuss the missile crisis or the Bay of Pigs. Prior to that, which party was in power for the US entry into WWI? WWII? Korea? With the exception of WWII, I doubt any of the average grunts on the ground had any good concept of why they were there.

As a sidenote, you might want to check to see which party was in in power when troops were extracted from the majority of those conflicts.

And, don't forget who got us into Bosnia, yet was too cowardly to do anything except blow up an aspirin factory and turn some sand into glass when Al Quaeda first turned its vitriol on the US.
