Doubling the size of the border patrol is about useful as putting a band aid on a completely slit throat. There are 1400 miles or so of pretty inhospitable territory that needs to be covered. We don't have the troops or the political will to cover the entire border.

It is going to take some pretty harsh measures to even make a dent in the problem. Catch and release policies will have to be abolished, inexpensive jail time (think MARICOPA COUNTY) for those caught crossing the border, cracking down on forged documentation and setting standards for penalties for employers.

Just like the illegal drug problem, much of the solution is on the "demand" side....not the supply.

Al Gore proposed 2000 additional Border Patrolmen in the 2000 election. Bush added 200!
