I haven't seen anything "pass for center" here. Can you give an example of this? I would think to pass for center we'd have to agree what the center is, and since we never have, I'm wondering what it was that passed for center.

I don't think it's ever good to label either side, or any part, of a political debate as being deranged- unless of course you just want to irritate that portion of the political continuum. I don't see the point in enraging people. I've done that on SI, and to be frank, it has never resulted in better behavior on the part of my discussion buddies, nor did it seem to have any positive consequences. Based on my experiments I think any negative labeling of any portion of a community, is probably going to have negative results. Some people want negative results, so I guess if they want that going in, that's fine- but I don't imagine Lane3 wants that. But she might. I won't speak for her.
