re: There is nothing accidental in starting a war man...any war, but particularly this one. Whatever you feel about the war rationale, comapring the death of a war to accidental road and driving related death is insulting....

The guy is a pig. No respect for the sacrifice of the soldiers or their families. He's the first one I would draft if I could.

Well I didn't mean to insult you. It was just a statistic I came across immediately after reading your post.

But it seems you should compare the 2,443 deaths to something to determine if its high, low, or whatever. I'm no military historian, but I think 800 deaths per year in a military conflict is low based on historical standards (correct?). That ties into my view that what is going on in Iraq at the moment isn't really accurately described as a "war". Instead at the moment the coalition is essentially policing a foreign country. I on't think it should be called a war, but that's neither here nor there.

What do you mean? 2,443 deaths is 2,443 deaths. How did you get some order of magnitude higher?

I was using your inane math reference...the death ratio is 0.21% in Iraq assuming 8 full rotations and considering only the death of American soldiers, that is no iraqis, no injuries, no mental scarring, etc...it is .01% in accidental driving death and only compared against the population, not driving events in three years, which would far exceed 300Million ...

Why bother? There is little to say on this subject to someone who thinks like Elroy. All he gets is the attention he so desperately craves.
