" knee jerk
criticism without assessment is a negative behavior."

Nothing wrong with labeling it as a negative behavior in your opinion. Nothing wrong with saying that certain criticisms seem to have very little thought behind them- and best to point out, when you do that, your reasoning, in a logical and neutral manners, since that is what best persuades people who aren't already on your side. That's exactly what I'm doing about the term BDS. I don't see the profit in fighting a negative behavior with a negative behavior, and I've told you what is wrong with it- it pisses people off, rather than engaging them. I don't see the point of that. Can you articulate a useful purpose for labeling people in that particular way? It doesn't "cure" them- if anything it makes them defensive. It turns off people who may be undecided. The only purpose I can think of is that it might serve as a bonding exercise helping one to make rapid connections with people who are ideologically on the same wavelength- but since there are other ways to do that, which are not as destructive to communication and community, I would think other ways of bonding would be more healthy.
