It's my opinion that you shouldn't assume anything. Its probably just "sell the news". Wall St.'s favorite game. You should know this by now, Brian.

In case you hadn't noticed, a lot of stocks have been selling off hard on little or no news. Likewise, quite a few stocks have had very good news and have sold off anyway.

The herd mentality is at work. Sell first, and ask questions later, then sell some more.

Lemmings all lined up in a row, gotta go over the cliff! Heck, everyone else is doing it, so why don't we?

Brian, just prior to the earnings release, CSFB stated they expected AMAT to announce "flatish" orders for Q3.

<<On the cycle front, going into 1Q earnings we expected an order peak in June, but it now looks like Sep orders will track flattish for some companies helped by DRAM, but this view is reflected in stocks after the recent rally.>>

Instead, AMAT announces they expect orders to increase.

<<Orders in the third quarter were also expected to rise 5 to 10 percent over the second quarter, when they were $2.49 billion, Handel said.
