This is an assumption.
Space or Time could be quantum in nature and require discrete steps to go from once instance to the next.

Does any evidence suggest that it is? Time and space are measured and we can measure with increased granularity as technology permits us to. To the nearest meter, to the nearest cm, to the nearest mm, ....and so on.

The evidence, observation and mathematics, indicates that measurements are infinitely granular. That's far more than assumption.
