I agree with the Macworld guy as well. $1k is a HUGE make/break line. Like you, I hope Apple really did its homework on the price and we're all wrong here, except the other people's money Suisse dood.

I agree also obviously. Single core is plenty for most people. iSight not needed. 12" screen is actually better for many people. They could have easily gotten down under $1000 maybe even more without sacrificing too much. And thus gotten a lot more eyeballs considering switching. $300 for no more viruses ever is reasonable.
