It's not a question of wages or poor HR practices, from what I understand. It's a situation where the person responsible for doing the books had a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (in Ireland, not Vancouver). If anything, RR should have been an ass about it and said "Opportunity, shmopportunity, you're not going anywhere until the books are closed." Clearly this is a case where what he believed to be a good deed is being rewarded with a hefty punishment. That'll larn 'im, and larn 'im but gudd.

In fact the story I heard is that CKG's beancounter has a very special situation as well tkat killed the dead line. Have no more details. Really what I heard is an exceptional sequence of events. BUt that is no excuse.
