No, I wasn't wrong.
In each case a selection is being made.
In natural selection the criteria is completely defined by the environment. In artificial selection there is an additional component of the intelligent selector, but that selection is only added on top. The artificial selector can only do so much to keep something alive that would have died in nature, so there are definite limits to what the selector can achieve.

That is the usual case for natural selection too. Good means things that promote survival and the next generation. The term of course, is arbitrary but the result is increasing sophistication.
