It has nothing to do with quality. AMD's chips were superior to intel for a while now. The fact is that Dell's superior business model is simply "negotiate best deal with intel".

Now, there is a chance that Dell is on the level but the fact is that without preferential treatment Dell would simply fade away. It is a matter of dependency on intel rather than quality of intel chips.

Now it is true that Dells high end was suffering from the luck of amd but on a flip side dell can not function at all without intels preferential treatment.

Without exactly knowing what is in micky's head I remain sceptical. Before Dell's announcement I have posted a probable, IMHO, scenario where dell would adopt AMD on a very limited basis just to drop amd with some nasty negative comments later. It would be a signifact blow to AMD even though the revenue involved is not that significant. On intel side the current impact is limited due to already low stock price but later on intel may benefit significantly from Dell's comments. Additional consideration is that it is clear that AMD's PR is getting significantly better. AMD is timing their announcements well to kill intel's thunder. Potential dell's future support increase would be an excellent PR trick.

I am not saying that what would happened but it what I would do in intel's place ....
