If you cannot find meaning in your own awareness where do you expect to find it. ?

Why do we have to find meaning at all?

It's true that without awareness we wouldn't discuss or contemplate our awareness, but that is just a condition of our environment. If we were aware, but not self aware we would be living differently, but not necessarily worse.

<The people that I have met who I would consider to have "over specialized in self awareness" have struck me as extraordinarily healthy and full of life and as having a beneficial effect on the species. >

Interesting theory of evolution that I linked in here a while back by Lipton is essentially the exact opposite of the assertion... ie. the whole purpose of evolution IS increased awareness:

I highly recommend the book FWIW... and I agree 100% with your assertion. Awareness is practically the entire quest of Buddhist psychology... probably Western Psychology as well.
