In answer to your question... is... Let's assume for the sake of arguement that every American loves this country and wants it be as safe as we can be. I think it's a mistake to say that some people are doing everything possible to prevent the president from "connecting the dots". Everyone wants the dots connected. What's necessary to make it safe? You have your ideas, I have mine. I want the focus on human intelligence. The customs officer at Orlando, the AZ and MN FBI field agents. The 20 or so 9/11 hijackers crossed paths pretty often with law enforcement officers - but the message never got upstairs. Like a conservative, I feel it's important want to cut that bureaucracy - not expand it as the president has done. I have limited faith in technology. There are hundreds if not billions of telephone calls made in America every day. I don't care how sophisticated the software is... tracking billions of dots in the hope of fereting out the next attack seems like a long shot that's going to waste billions. It's easy and appealing, but it won't work. It's far more important to use that money to secure our ports; to place electronic devices on hazmat trucks so we know where each one is at any given moment; to fix our visa system so we don't do stupid stuff like extending the visas of dead 9/11 hijackers. It's important to control our southern borders - over 400,000 illegals entered illegally last year. It's better to strengthen our bridges and tunnels, to harden our nuclear plants, to better control the stuff dirty bombs are made of - the low grade nuclear material used in hospitals and universities. I could go on and on. Undoubtedly much of what I mentioned is already being worked on, but, we need to speed it up and move faster. I feel we could do so if we didn't waste billions on pie in the sky technology that raises more questions than it answers. How come all those who were bitching and moaning that Bush never connected the dots are now doing everything they can to prevent Bush from connecting those dots? TIA The big mistake you're making is that Bush was only in office for a few months when 9/11 hit, bj clinton was around for 8 years and did NOTHING... funny how everyone forgets the obvious...
