Only problem is that's not the way economics work. Give you an example. You could say: NZ doesn't have a problem of energy. It is just a matter of paying the right price.

NZ doesn't need foreign oil. (same way the US doesn't need immigrants. It is just a matter for the consumer to cough up more money for the indigenous energy source. Say ethanol and biodiesel at USD100 barrel equivalent.

Problem is: the consumer is not stupid. He's going to say, better pay less for a foreign for cheaper oil than for a national supplier for exorbitant prices.

Same way the consumer in the US says: better pay a foreigner who take up the job at a cheap rate than pay a national an exrobitant price.

NO ONE OWES A NATIONAL A LIVING!!!
