ElM, you forgot about the cost of having the low-priced immigrant blocking the road, the prison, the dole queue, the hospital, the school, using the water supply, hydroelectricity, airport capacity, taking the fish and shellfish and anything else which isn't bolted down and often that which is and so on.

If an activity isn't economic then it shouldn't be done and won't be.

If everything was priced correctly, sure, open the borders to anyone. But everything isn't priced correctly and can't be. A toll gate on every beach, other public asset, and air pollution source is simply impracticable.

If it's a great thing to have a LOT of people at a cheap price, check out India. Or maybe Nigeria. It's not so great. Which is why they want to move to NZ and help themselves to the good stuff I have produced.
