Perhaps envoirmental catastrophe is what it will take to bring about world government. Our country seems to be the main opponent, because of: Geographic and lingusitic isolation Our energy and resource piggery Our being the only remaining superpower, and the only coutry left clinging to a cold war scale military But, we all share the planet, rich and poor alike. Republicans might be able to produce and buy fresh air and water for a while - but how long can that really last? World government is as inevitable as the rise of nation states from nomadic tribes.

Nadine, I am not going to debate whether Israelis are better than Arabs. That is a useless debate. And a red herring too, as what I actually said was that their human rights records was far worse than Israel's yet they were judged far less harshly for it. Nor will I accept the "he/she/EU/China/... does it too arguments" I am not living in EU or China and am neither responsible for nor can have any influence over their actions. I can discuss and some minute way influence US actions, so that is what I am willing do discuss. Anyone who is so concerned about Russia's (or whoever else's) behavior may move there and try to influence the Russian conduct. So, you acknowledge that the human rights record of Russia and the Arab regimes is worse than that of the US or Israel, you just say you are not going to discuss it, you are concerned with the US only (and Israel, as the US's client state). I am proposing a push towards a confederal model of world governence with very limited but strong and enforcible roles for the world body Just out of curiosity, what sort of role would Russia and China and the Arab states HAVE in your proposed confederate world governance? As much as they now have in the UNSC? or as much as they now have in the UN General Assembly? At any rate, it would hardly be "fair" if they did not have a strong role, in line with their massive populations and economic importance. ...and yet, you don't seem the least concerned with the attitude towards human rights or the governmental accountability that they will bring to this world government thingy you propose. Not my concern, you say. WHY THE HELL NOT? Do you believe that the mere act of joining a world government confederation will make the leopard change his spots? Make the Arab regimes accountable? Make China care about human rights? And if not, what is to prevent your world confederation from becoming an unaccountable world dictatorship? Which you are eager to join, heaven knows why. Bottom line: I don't want to be ruled by any government that is not democratic and which cannot be voted out of office. Not state. Not country. Not world. You can talk to me about world confederations after all the major countries in the world are democracies, not before. In the meantime, I suggest you start paying attention to raising the "floor" of human rights by tackling the worst offenders, instead of spending all your time trying to raise the "ceiling" by scolding the mildest offenders, just because they might listen and won't kill you.
