My "name remembering" node in my brain was never very good and is now completely on the fritz, but I remember the kind of details you describe.

The detail node in my brain is the one that was never very good. I come up empty on those searches more often than not. Google works best for me when I want to find out something about a subject for which I have a name. There's no way to frame a query for "somewhere out west," I don't think.
