Oh.. I quite aware of what's endangering polar bears..

And my recent discussions related to GW should bear that out (pardon the pun).

Polar bears depend upon seal populations for food. Seals depend upon fish. Crutaceans and copepods depend upon Zooplankton, and Zoonplankton depend upon Phytoplankton, and Phytoplankton depend upon oceanic nutrients normally pushed up from the oceanic depths by upwellings.

Conservatives act as if we don't start drilling tomorrow, the caribou will use it up before Exxon-Mobil gets it's hands on it.

And liberals act as if the world will end tomorrow, even were the Pocurpine Caribou to become extinct (a fate which nature has relegated so many of other species over the eons).

I'd say that the best chance to avoid ANY extinctions is to make the private market a player in expending the $$$$ and efforts toward preserving them.
