"script"-- that's a good way of putting it. I just reread the speech, fascinated by the opposite impressions here. The whole thing exudes finality and victory. The hard part is over, some clean-up necessary, got to find those WMDs, but wow, weren't we amazing, and thank you thank you, we have prevailed. There is even a paragraph that manages to conflate 9-11 and Iraq cleverly.

The implications were anything at the time BUT limited to one ship or one small step. It was a big time victory speech. In rereading I am somewhat nonplussed by the arrogance and confidence in it. And somewhat embarrassed.
