What you've done with that statement is show that you aren't interested in applying the same critical level of examination to phytoplankton as you insist on for other theories.

Because the prevailing theories you're expounding ARE INCOMPLETE until we understand just what level of impact phytoplankton depletion (for which there is significant RECENT evidence) has on the total analysis.

Listen.. if we're all located in a closed room, where scientists are studying and measuring normal O2 levels, but then the majority of us go to sleep, or fall into a coma, then O2 levels are going to be higher than they would were we awake and active. And those scientists might be led to deduce that their expectations for 02 usage might be falling pray to some source of excess O2 production.

I know it's not the best analogy, but CO2 PPM can rise if the ability of the ocean's flora to absorb it has been depleted by nutrient starvation.

And the post I made to Neolib last night brought up some interesting correlations between paleo-climatic dust levels, and current day.

The trial and error approach. We'll just seed the majority of the planet surface [ocean] with fertilizer and see if it works. Unforseen consequences? Not knowing what those are, it's difficult to say that you can actually manage them.

We're talking FERTILIZER HERE, not genetic engineering. You said yourself that we sometimes over-fertilized our lawns, right? Was that an irreparable crisis?

The equivalent would be to over-fertilize to such an extent that we turn the oceans into a marsh.. An event that quite unlikely considering the levels Martin and others have proposed.

The only repercussion I can postulate is that marine life would migrate there and leave current fishing areas with less Marine life as they seek better "grazing".

What I've said is that we don't know very much about phytoplankton historical levels. I certainly am not ready for that trial and error approach of stimulating a life form in the oceans and seeing what happens.

And how else are you going to study it? Do you have an alternative research approach that would reveal historical data?

How does a physician determine how to treat our various diseases? They experiment, in a controlled manner, by conducting drug testing and analysis of nutritional deficiencies to determine the impact on the immune system.
