"Competition is the most needed thing for consumers to get and even break. Now we will have to take a close look at AT&T again. Since SBC bought out AT&T, they have been collecting all of the smaller parts of the former monopoly, and it will be intact very soon."

A couple of the regionals are strong enough to remain independent for a long time. For instance Quest was a Dot Com that bought a Baby Bell and kept a couple billion dollar war chest. Quest was just a intercontinental fiber play before that. They won the bidding war and Frontier lost.

You are correct about SBC though. Don't they have three or four of the Baby Bells plus the long distance infrastructure from AT & T?

"All that music, TV reception, picture taking, and text, are just a fad and the cost will probably cause a reduction in such services."

I think that is the direction of the future. This are getting smaller and more personal. Personal content delivery can be very lucrative. People may occupy the same space without sharing common experiences. This will cause further degradation of our sense of community.
