That's quite presumptuous.

It is an obvious presumption. The panda’s bone spur met requirements of survival but does not evidence rational planning.

“I what way???

Through a nervous system capable of storing, comparing, and processing information.

“TigerPaw disagrees

I will be presumptuous once again and tell you flat out that he does not disagree. He is well aware that humans can pass on information in other than genetic ways. Indeed, language is almost the entire human advantage. Without the capacity to pass on our ideas from generation to generation we would be ill suited in many ways for survival.

For instance, if all evidences of humanity (books, crops, structures, pictures, etc) were removed from the planet and if only day-old babies remained…what would happen? In this thought experiment we are assuming that the children can reach adulthood (perhaps through an alien feeding station that is then removed). What knowledge would this new race of creatures have that was superior to other animals? They would have virtually no knowledge of anything and a very limited ability to communicate their ubiquitous ignorance. The long journey of savage terror and prayer (in this case simple grunts of dread) to thunder Gods would begin all over again.
