Yes Irony, Saddam "butcher of of Bagdad" though he was, had the religious zealots like Bin Lade, et al under control. He killed them-lol. And Iraq was a check on Iran. Saddam had no interest in a relationship with Bin Ladin. He ran a secular country. Now we have an impossible situation and our troops are both trapped and worn out. What is equally interesting is that I have heard people in the know say the Sunnies may well wrench control back from the Shias. Double Irony if Saddam gets back in power. Senator Joe Biden (one of the 1/2 dozen smartest guys in the senate IMO) implied on Sunday that Afghanistan will get taken over again by "insurgents". So what does GWB spend his time on today: trying to put discrimination in our constitution by introducing a constitutional marriage amendment banning gay marriage. That one really blows my mind. The gay marriage issue is EXACTLY like the segregation issue just a bit more sophisticated. No wonder GWB can't understand it. We have a large gay community in the town I live in and I know many gays very well. All they want is the same right to live as others do. To marry the person they love. What Grinch would deny them that? There is no choice involved in homosexuality, so why would our society deny them the same rights all other people desire. Marriage. I thought we had ended that insane fight in the 60's with integration. Just when I think GWB cannot get any more stupid or venel, he never ceases to amaze me. Remember he ran as a compassionate conservative. He set a record in his state for the number of people executed. And rumor has it made fun of one woman people were trying to spare! What I wonder about, is who are the 30% still supporting him. Maybe if people realized supporting GWB in a sense makes them the same person. One's philosophy is who one is. Is GWB someone a person wants to emulate or wants their children to emulate-lol?
