And so the Israelites eventually occupied it, and made Jerusalem the capital. Were they not expelled by the Romans and the Temple burned after that? The opinion of Neturae Karta (who regard themselves as the only Jews practicing a religion true to the Torah):nkusa.org >>The only time that the People of Israel were permitted to have a state was two thousand years ago when the glory of the creator was upon us, and likewise in the future when the glory of the creator will once more be revealed , and the whole world will serve Him, then He Himself (without any human effort or force of arms) will grant us a kingdom founded on Divine Service. Because of all of this and other reasons the Torah forbids us to end the exile and establish a state and army until the Holy One, blessed He, in His Glory and Essence will redeem us . This is forbidden even if the state is conducted according to the law of the Torah because arising from the exile itself is forbidden, and we are required to remain under the rule of the nations of the world , as is explained in the book VAYOEL MOSHE. If we transgress this injunction, He will bring upon us (may we be spared) terrible punishment. << Clearly, the Christian religion differs from this interpretation in that Jesus is regarded as the Messiah, which the Jewish religion does not, and therefore the Promised Land has presumably been "given" to those descendants of Abraham who have been circumcised. Thus the State of Israel might suit the beliefs of the Christians but in terms of the Jewish religion it is not permitted. > The idea that Jews should now live in dispersion, all the while knowing where their "promised land" is, must indeed be a very difficult and harsh way of life, as it is the tendency of people to unite in one location based on common ethnicity and religion. The banishment from the Promised Land was intended as a punishment not a vacation on the French Riviera or in Miami. And it wasn't passive either, the Jews were instructed to follow many laws and behave in a certain way --- and only then, IF they did what they had to, the Almighty in His wisdom MIGHT decide to redeem them. And you are right, there is a natural tendency for people to unite in any location. That is why throughout history the Jews isolated themselves and sought to be isolated.
