I always believed customer service was vital for government employees and tried to give it to the best of my ability. I'm a forester, but I cheerfully fielded questions about how to get the hornets out of the attic, how to get green scum off the bathtub and so forth. I have no idea why people would call my agency for such things, but if I got the call I did my best. That was long before Al Gore, however. To the extent that he contributed to a customer service ethic, he is to be applauded.
